LMU is a founding member of Venice International University (VIU), to which 20 universities around the world belong. The VIU fosters cooperative interactions between its partner universities by means of interdisciplinary collaborations and carefully designed study programs. Its Globalization Program offers students from its partner institutions the opportunity to spend a semester studying in an international environment and within an interdisciplinary framework. Lecturers can choose whether to teach in the Globalization Program and the Intensive Graduate Programs, or give LMU block seminars on the VIU campus. The Intensive Graduate Programs include PhD Academies, Graduate Seminars, and Summer Schools, and VIU also hosts international conferences. Each year, some 300 students and many researchers from more than 15 countries profit from the programs organized by the VIU on its campus on the island of San Servolo in Venice’s lagoon.
